Final post for task2

19/04/2014 14:19

Having failed the digital citizenship assignment I was very determined to ensure that I passed the social earner task. I made some adjustments to this task and ensured that I did not repeat the same mistakes.

My main focus was the grammar and spelling as it wasn’t up to university level standards. Before publishing a blog I would proof read the post several times and checked for spelling and grammar mistakes. I also called upon my friend Claire who is studying English as a major, who was nice enough to assist and evaluate my work.

My marking rubric suggested that I failed to recognise any links, images and videos. I ensured that this assignment produced links and images and screenshots however, I still have trouble uploading videos. I tried to include an at least 2 files (images, screenshots or links) in each blog. Google wasn’t much help in trying to figure out how to upload videos however, it did teach how to take a screenshot on my hp.

Finally my friends believed that I didn’t go in depth and reflect well enough on the topics in the lecture. I also lacked feeling and expression hence my blogs are a lot more reflective, at times relating them to personal experiences, which is evident in my topic 7 blog post. 3 blog posts were done on personal reflection and another 3 on lectures, a total of 6 blog posts instead of 4 that was required.

I do believe I have made a great improvement from task 1 and my results in should reflect that. I conclude my final blog post for this assignment with confidence and great aspirations for this task as I have ensured that I covered all the requirements in the marking rubric.

Reflection on task 2 Draft

15/04/2014 13:14

The draft and the peer review was really helpful in the sense that it gave me some sort of guidelines of how well I was doing and where I could improve. Having looked at some of my peers work and websites and comparing their work to mine helped me evaluate my work.

I reviewed a colleague’s website by the name of Sahara. Sahara had a very well structured website. Her layout for each task and reflections emphasised her statements as a hard working student as it was very evident with the well presented blog/website. I gave Sahara a positive review and rightfully so. It was also a great and unique experience, being placed in the tutors’ shoes as we evaluated other students work.

A fellow student and friend Claire, who is also doing the same unit was nice enough to email me her work for evaluation. Claire has a very unique style of writing and by doing English as a major it is no wonder why. Being a typical girl, her website stereotypically was very pretty and well structured. She was very up to date with her work as all blog posts were done after lectures and tutorials and hence why all major aspects of each topic were covered. However Claire could improve her website by including more images. I noticed that was the only thing that the blogs lacked. Overall her website was very well presented and some great opinions and strong points were discussed in her blog posts.

This task was one of the greater assignments I have done in uni. It was great to give and receive constructive criticism from fellow peers. It was very interesting to see what we had to say about each others’ work and explore one another’s opinions. I also see this part of the assignment as the definition of authentic task and authentic learning. Most of the learning was conducted by the students and the tutors were more or less there for guidance.

Digital citizenship reflection

I was very shocked and really upset at my last assignment as it is the only assignment that I have failed in my university experience so far.  I really couldn’t understand why I got the mark I did, as I felt like I had met the requirements needed to achieve at least a pass mark. I did the 3 blog posts when we are asked to do 2, did a homepage, about me page and a contacts page. However, I failed to realise that was only a small portion of the task at hand.

It was not until I viewed my peers’ work that I realised that I haven’t covered all aspects of the topic and left out important aspects of the task. Screenshots, links or maybe even supporting videos could have aided my grades. Had I looked at the marking rubric, analysed the requirements for the project and assessed my work prior to handing it in, I believe I would have achieved a much better mark.

In conclusion I may have not succussed in this assignment but I have learned where I went wrong and where I can improve. It is essential that I don’t repeat the same mistakes and check over my marking rubric and make up the marks that were lost in the first assignment.

Edn 113 poster.docx (539436)

I am not really a technological person and I at all, didn’t think I would enjoy this unit. However, the assignments have lured me into wanting to advance my knowledge of technology. I used see technology as an evil phenom that is taking over our world but rather a useful tool that would be great part of a teacher’s asset.

It is once you understand technology and know how to use it to your advantage that one realises how useful of a resource it can be. J

The assignments made me feel like I was learning a new language, a new culture and the poster along with the blog established that.  Thus, I conclude assignment 1 with this blog with an attached PDF of the poster.

Edn 113 Topic; Learning to be a teacher and technology

08/03/2014 23:18

So this is my second blog entry and feeling a bit more confident writing then I was last time. I am slowly getting the hang of the the idea of having a Jornaul as a blog as a pose to having one on paper. I recall doing two journals for the edn 112 unit which was a great way to reflect as a teacher and as a student of education. This weeks lecture was very intresting as it discussed the importance of being a teacher with technologgy and doing so as an authentic teacher.

The lectuer introduced the word pedagogy which represents us and me as a teacher. What type of teacher am I going to be based on the theories and experiences i have encountered  as a student of education. Essientally i felt the purpose of this lecture is to introduce technology to the students and link it or rather, make it part of the nine elements of authentic learning which are listed as,

  1. Authentic Text
  2. Authentic activity
  3. Expert preformances
  4. Multiple perspectives
  5. Collarbation
  6. Reflection
  7. Articulation
  8. Coaching and scaffolding
  9. Authentic assessment
These elements made me reflect back to my schooling experience as i came to realise that the topics or subjects that had meaningful tasks were in fact the most useful and sparked the most intrest. However, with the growing phenom of technology brings a new challenge to the classroom and as teachers of the future we must use techonolgy as a form of authentic learning basing it on  tasks, activities, group collarbation and other work around technology.

In conclusion rather than fighting the idea of technology as a form learning we must adapt and accept the fact that technology is now a big part of learning for students. The lecture concluded with a slide that quoted "technology with pedagogy" and with that i conclude this blog.

First Blog Post!

03/03/2014 18:32

Hello there, Welcome to my blog!

I've never had a blog before and never successfully kept a journal before so we'll see how I go! I should confess that I am not a technological person and not at all a fan of technology.

I'm interested to see how I cope with this unit as it is a test of my weakness. This unit is either going make or break me so fingers crossed and the challenge is on!
